Dr. Manuel Espinoza’s Plenary Talk at the 42nd Annual Ethnography Forum

Join us at the “42nd Annual Ethnography in Education Research Forum” which will be held virtually on Friday and Saturday, February 26-27, 2021. We look forward to hosting Dr. Manuel Espinoza for our Views-by-Two Closing Plenary with Dr. Carla Shedd of City University of New York.

Since its first convening in 1980, the Ethnography Forum has been internationally recognized for its encouragement of original and in-depth ethnographic research within various educational contexts. It has maintained its reputation as a space to examine new ideas and to interrogate existing paradigms and cutting-edge issues. This year’s theme Ethnography and Racial Justice is especially timely in addressing urgent issues and longstanding dilemmas. We have an outstanding conference program planned and many presentations that will focus on some of the most significant and pressing issues in education. Over 1,600 attendees have registered thus far.

The program includes notable plenary speakers: Dr. Prudence L. Carter (University of California, Berkeley), Dr. Manuel Espinoza (University of Denver), Dr. Carla Shedd (City University of New York), and Dr. Vaughn Watson (Michigan State University), and Dr. Eve Ewing (University of Chicago). Dr. Ewing is the 2020 Erickson and Hornberger Outstanding Book Award Recipient. This award is named in honor of our colleagues, Frederick Erickson and Nancy H. Hornberger for their vision, scholarship, and commitment to advancing work in the field as well as their service to Penn GSE and the Ethnography Forum.

We hope that you will be able to support Dr. Manuel Espinoza and share in the rich dialogue and the outstanding ethnographic work being conducted by scholars across our field and the academic life-course. To register, please create a Dryfta account and sign up for individual plenary presentations and concurrent sessions.

We look forward to seeing you at the Forum. If you have any questions, please contact the Ethnography in Education Research Forum at gsecue@gse.upenn.edu.
