This session invites participants to solve a mathematical task and analyze common student responses, including errors. Rather than focusing on correctness, the session explores what student work reveals about understanding and reasoning. Participants will consider how interpreting student thinking can guide instructional decisions and serve as a powerful form of assessment in teaching.

A brief bio for Dr. Bingqian Wei

Dr. Bingqian Wei is a mathematics educator and teacher educator with experience in K–12 and higher education in China and the United States. She currently teaches in teacher preparation programs at universities in the Seattle area. Her work centers on supporting future teachers in understanding mathematical learning progressions, interpreting student thinking, and designing instruction that builds on students’ developing ideas.
