Don’t Let Your Vacation Time Go to Waste – It’s Part of Your Compensation!

Reminder: Annual Leave Sweep is June 30, 2025

As we approach the end of the fiscal year, it’s important to review your vacation leave balance and plan ahead for any remaining time off. Remember, your vacation leave is part of your annual compensation package, so if you don’t use it, you’re essentially leaving money on the table! The fiscal year runs from July 1st to June 30th, and vacation time that isn’t used by June 30, 2025, will be lost during the annual leave sweep. Supervisors are encouraged to support their employees in utilizing their vacation entitlements.

Vacation Carryover Limits

  • Full-time University Staff and 12-month Faculty: You can carry over up to 352 hours (44 days) of vacation leave into the next fiscal year. Any balance exceeding this amount will be forfeited during the annual leave sweep.
  • Classified Staff: Carryover hours depend on your years of service, with policies governed by the Colorado State Personnel Board Rules. For more information, refer to the Classified Staff Leave Policies.

How to Check Your Vacation Balance in MyLeave
To check your projected leave balance, log into the employee portal, click the MyLeave tile, and use the month drop-down menu to navigate to July 2025. This will show your projected leave balance, taking into account your accrual rate and any vacation leave you’ve scheduled.

Reminder to Use Your Floating Holiday
If you haven’t used your Floating Holiday for fiscal year 2025, don’t wait! Be sure to schedule it before June 30th. Log it in MyLeave using the Floating Holiday (FLH) earnings code (formerly known as Personal Observance Day).

To stay up-to-date with the holiday schedule, be sure to check the CU Denver Holiday Calendar.

Your vacation leave is part of your total compensation, so take full advantage of it before it expires! If you have any questions or need assistance, please reach out to sehdhr@ucdenver.edu.

Take care of yourself, and enjoy your time off!
