Presented by Dr. Brian Hewlett – Assistant Teaching Professor, for EDFN
Brian N. Hewlett’s presentation, “A Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Waste,” explores his teaching philosophy through the intersecting lenses of educational equity, identity, and the social foundations of schooling. Drawing on his background as a multiracial foster child, educator, mentor, counselor, and scholar, he will discuss how this formative message shaped his commitment to helping students understand education as a site where human potential can be nurtured, recognized, or diminished, and how that commitment informs his teaching, mentoring, and scholarship.
