This is a friendly reminder to be thinking about your vacation leave balance and to plan ahead prior to the end of the fiscal year. The fiscal year runs 7/1 – 6/30 each year. Supervisors are encouraged to support their employees’ use of their vacation leave entitlements.
Full-time University Staff and 12-month Faculty can carry up to 352 hours (44 days) of vacation leave from one fiscal year into the next. Those with a balance over 352 hours will lose excess hours during the annual leave sweep in July. Classified Staff carryover hours are determined by years of service and Leave rules are governed by the Colorado State Personnel Board Rules, and more information can be found here: https://www.cu.edu/employee-services/classified-staff-leave-policies-0.
Steps to Check Your Vacation Balance in My Leave
You can view your projected leave balance by logging in to the employee portal, clicking the MyLeave tile and using the month drop-down menu on the calendar page to navigate to July 2024. This will show your projected leave balance for July 1, considering your monthly leave accrual rate and any upcoming vacation leave you have approved and scheduled within MyLeave.
Other days off
If you haven’t already taken your Floating Holiday for fiscal year 2024, we encourage you to schedule that day between now and June 30th. To log the floating holiday, please use the earnings code Floating Holiday (FLH). (This was previously called Personal Observance Day but we are asked to now use Floating Holiday.)
The holiday calendar varies from year to year. You may wish to review the updated list of holidays for our campus, here: CU Denver holiday schedules
