At the end of the Spring 2026 semester, the CU Denver School of Education & Human Development (SEHD) honored 42 students and two partner organizations during the 2026 Undergraduate Recognition Celebration. Among those 42 students receiving awards, all five 2025-2026 participants in the Call Me MISTER (CMM) program, called MISTERs, were recognized.
MISTER Kori Curtis was recognized for Collegiality and Professionalism, which is for students who have has demonstrated extraordinary collegiality and professionalism with their colleagues, peers, faculty, and staff.
Community Service Recognition is awarded to students making outstanding contributions to their communities through service at CU Denver and beyond. MISTERs Tramane Hudson and Diego Lucero were recognized for Community Service, which included volunteering with the Food Bank of the Rockies with CMM.
Students who show extraordinary leadership during the year within and beyond SEHD can earn Leadership Recognition. MISTER Vincent Vuong was recognized for Leadership.
Outstanding Student Recognition serves as a more holistic award for students demonstrating outstanding service, leadership, and academic achievement during the year and commitment to serving the University community. MISTER Tony Tasayco was recognized as an Outstanding Student.
To receive an award at the Undergraduate Recognition Celebration, students had to be nominated by faculty and staff. All five MISTERs were nominated by SEHD faculty and administrators. CMM Program Director Dr. Geneva Sarcedo choose not to nominate any MISTERs because she believed recognition would be more meaningful if nominations came from outside of CMM.
“I’m so proud of our MISTERs and all the work they have done to earn these awards. You know you have an excellent bunch of students when staff and faculty external to the program recognize what’s special about this group,” Dr. Sarcedo said.
CMM is a teacher leadership initiative grounded in the tenets of stewardship, ambassadorship, personal growth, teacher efficacy, and servant—leadership, and recognition of the MISTERs shows they embody these principles.
