Last week, two PhD students in Early Childhood Policy (Allie Kallman Wegner and Zelalem Kitaw) and two faculty members (Drs. Kristie Kauerz and Cristina Gillanders) took part in a Federal Policy Institute in Washington, DC. The course was part of SEHD’s participation in a national network of 17 institutions of higher education across the country that offer advanced degrees in early childhood policy. During the four days, students and faculty engaged with national leaders spanning research, policy, and practice — including senior leaders from Institute for Education Sciences, American Council on Education, National Association for the Education of Young Children, and many others. They also visited the Hill to engage with staffers from both the Senate and House chambers of the U.S. Congress. Travel costs were paid for by a generous grant from Early Childhood Policy in Institutions of Higher Education, ECPIHE (Drs. Kristie Kauerz and Diana Schaack, co-PIs).
