Dr. Brandehoff and Two Doc Students Attend Community Storytelling Workshop to Kickoff the School Year

Dr. Robin Brandehoff, Assistant Clinical Professor in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education and Faculty Advisor for Doctoral Students of Color, was invited to a private theatre workshop on community storytelling hosted by Mirror Image Arts and the Center for Applied Theatre in late August, 2023. She was invited to bring her doctoral students from her class (Re)Claiming the Dominant Narrative, and two students (first year Critical Studies PhD student Lex Rodriguez and second year Urban and Diverse Communities EdD student Tiffany Tasker) were able to join and participate in the all day gathering. Together, they learned different storytelling techniques using Augusta Boal’s Image Theatre and closed the day with Newspaper Theatre narratives to explore and expose contradictions in public news media and current events in the U.S. through a critical theatrical lens. These three are excited to further explore opportunities for freestyle responses to critical issues in education and the community in class with our comrades this semester.
