Fernie Baca, Former CLDE Faculty Member and AVC for Research, Passed Away on May 17

We regret to inform you that Dr. Fernie Baca, who served as a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education (CLDE) faculty in CU Denver’s School of Education & Human Development from 1976 – 2001, passed away on May 17, 2023. In addition to her teaching, Dr. Baca served for a number of years as CU Denver’s associate vice chancellor for research. She retired with emeritus status from the University of Colorado in 2001. First-generation SEHD students have benefited from Dr. Baca’s generosity for many years. In 2009, she created an endowed scholarship program to support first-generation undergraduate and MA students in SEHD’s Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education program. To contribute to this fund in memory of Dr. Baca, please visit https://giving.cu.edu/fund/fernie-baca-scholarship-fund.
