More studies are necessary to identify the best strategies to teach multilingual preschool students, researchers say, but some things are clear. “Being bilingual is not enough,” said Cristina Gillanders, associate professor in early childhood education at the University of Colorado Denver. “You have to have the preparation to teach these children. You have to understand bilingualism and how bilingual children learn languages.”
