I. GENERAL BUSINESS & REVIEW/DISCUSSIONS:

Process for standardizing syllabus templates

  • Question from the faculty meeting – Will syllabi that were approved through state authorization need to go through the 5-year review process
  • A few committee members will meet on campus for the Oct 17 meeting and review all the syllabus templates
    • Check for consistent policies and procedures
    • Are there places links can be used for resources/polices
    • Land Acknowledgement
    • Wellness Statement
  • Discussed creating a Curriculum Committee Canvas shell with committee documents, resources, and syllabus templates for faculty to access
  • 5-year syllabus review – talked about a full program review of syllabi instead of random courses up for review. Will look at courses offered in the last three years

II. COURSE PROPOSAL/REVISION REQUESTS:

Status                                Item(s)                                                                     Presenter

          • The course will concentrate on uncovering data biases in research, and support students in using data for public good and advancing equity
          • Expected enrollment is STEM EdD and PhD students, and doctoral students from other concentrations

Approved                            RSEM 7400                                                             Courtney Donovan

Title: Culturally Responsive Research & Evaluation Methods

          • The SEHD has several courses that focus on DEI, but they do not connect to research or evaluation ideals. RSEM 7400 combines both and is greatly needed for students
          • This course is a good fit for all REM students, including certificate students, and other SEHD doctoral programs. REM is collaborating with Ethnic Studies in CLAS to list this course as an option in their certificate
