The Changes to Child Life Interventions During the Covid-19 Pandemic

Child Life Specialists utilize a variety of different interventions when they are working with their patients that range from newborn to 20 years old. Interventions are activities that can involve play to help children in reducing their fear and anxiety during their visit and any treatments or procedures they will undergo (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2014). This study aimed to find the changes to Child Life interventions when the Covid-19 pandemic came to the United States. Previous research has not yet been completed on this topic since Covid-19 is still fairly new. Child Life Specialists volunteered to participate in this study and interviews were completed and grounded theory and case analysis were the analytical framework utilized. The results concluded that there were changes to interventions during the Covid-19 pandemic and substitutions took place of some. The findings also indicated that there were multiple restrictions and limitations to the field of Child Life and that due to Covid-19 Child Life services is not as family oriented as it previously was before Covid-19.
