CU @ Pride Fest

28397C293C368D881DE52E75961836EAIT’S DENVER PRIDEFEST WEEKEND!

In the wake of the recent tragedy in Orlando, it is more important than ever for all of us, regardless of orientation or culture, to come together in solidarity for a peaceful and democratic society, and to celebrate together the differences that make us beautiful. I hope that you will take the opportunity to participate in the Pride events this weekend. I thought I would share some specific logistics to help make that participation easier for you!

As you know, we are very proud that the University of Colorado is a major sponsor of this year’s PrideFest, as well as an Organizing Partner to the bid effort to bring the international Gay Games to Denver in 2022 (www.Denver2022Games.org). The School of Education & Human Development is also an active organizer with the bid effort, and many of you are volunteering for this exciting possibility!

FESTIVAL VILLAGE

is an extensive mix of entertainment, sponsors, and vendors, filling Civic Center Park. HOURS: Saturday 11a to 7p, Sunday 10a to 6p. The Festival Map is here: http://www.glbtcolorado.org/pridefest/festival-map/ University of Colorado’s booth is on “Sponsors Row”, the strip just off Broadway in front of the Capitol Building. The Team Colorado / Denver2022Games booth is at J-04 in the vendors section. Stop by for your “Denver2022” temporary tattoo – we look forward to seeing you! Note that you can’t bring coolers, alcohol, or open beverages (water bottles must be factory-sealed still) into the fenced perimeter; bags are subject to search.

THE PARADE

“steps off” from Cheesman Park at 9:30 am Sunday. The Parade leaves Cheesman via the Franklin / 13th Ave entrance to the park, goes north on Franklin to Colfax, then west down Colfax to Civic Center Park (http://www.glbtcolorado.org/pridefest/coorslight-pridefest-parade/). You can sit/stand throughout the part of the park near Franklin / 13th, and all along the parade route (many restaurants and bars along Colfax are open with spectator specials too). Bring water and a shade umbrella, or at least sunscreen!

YOU’RE INVITED TO MARCH

with us if you wish! To join us, you’ll need to be in Cheesman Park at our line-up spot no later than 8:45 Sunday morning. For details on joining the march with us, just email KENT.SEIDEL@UCDENVER.EDUsometime today or tomorrow, and I’ll send you specifics.

ENTERTAINMENT:

The “Dogs in Drag” contest can be a lot of fun. It’s quick, so pets (and their humans) aren’t too uncomfortable for too long. The contest is Saturday at 12:15 at the Center Stage, Greek Amphitheatre in Civic Center Park. There are a number of music performances of many genres throughout the weekend in the Park. More info at: http://www.glbtcolorado.org/pridefest/entertainment/

Yours in Pride!
