TRAINING | Undocupeers: Liberating Campus Climate | April 22, 2016

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the CU Dreamers Taskforce invites you to attend a training titled “Undocupeers: Liberating Campus Climate.”

As CU Denver continues to see a growth in the enrollment of DREAMer* students, this training is timely and instrumental for educating faculty and staff about federal, state and institutional practices, laws and policies impacting Undocumented, ASSET/DACA and DREAMer students. Additionally, participants will develop an understanding of the DREAMer student experience and learn strategies for how to effectively advocate for and support these students within their academic units and departments.

*At the University of Colorado Denver, DREAMer students are defined as students who were brought to the United States after birth and may be connected with the DREAM Act movement. They may qualify for Deferred Action (DACA) and/or qualify for in-state tuition under the Colorado ASSET Bill.

Additionally, we invite you to consider giving to the CU Denver DREAM Scholarship. This scholarship is an opportunity to financially support undocumented (DACA/ASSET) students who are working to pursue their college degrees. Financial concerns are a central roadblock for DACA/ASSET students. During a focus group conducted last year, DACA/ASSET students at CU Denver reported they often work full time to pay tuition out of pocket, lack sufficient time to study because of their work schedules, and as a result at times need to drop out due to rising tuition costs. All donations are tax deductible. You can make a one-time donation, or if you are a CU system employee, or you can sign up for a monthly payroll deduction.

Please feel free to share this invitation with other colleagues.

We hope you consider these opportunities to support our CU Denver DREAMER students.
