Members of the DEI Committee met on Monday, February 5, 2024. We are creating a Google Drive DEI repository for faculty with resources for engaging in social justice practices. We hope to share these resources in upcoming months. We are considering working with the curriculum committee to provide consultation for syllabus design and to systematize methods for gaining students’ feedback, given the upcoming changes to FCQs. We met with AD Jefferson about supporting next steps to the DSOC data that were shared at the November 2023 SEHD retreat. Members of the DEI committee may become involved in follow-up focus groups this coming summer. We hope to continue to identify individual and systemic changes to become better aligned to our mission and vision. In March, DEI committee members will review items on existing survey instruments to determine whether they solicit information similar to the information gathered in the focus groups. We hope to refine existing systems, rather than add a survey. As more data are gathered, we anticipate that more ideas for supporting pedagogical and relational change will become evident.
