Faculty member Diana Schaack to direct the CU Denver subcontract for a three-year evaluation of the Denver Preschool Program (DPP) in collaboration with Dr. Vi-Nhuan Le at NORC at the University of Chicago. The total funding for this collaborative project is $1.06 million. The evaluation will examine the impact of a voter-approved sales tax that provides a tuition credit to all 4-year olds in Denver to attend a preschool of their families’ choosing. The tuition credit is, in part, scaled to family size and household income and is designed to improve access to preschool in underserved communities and to help close preschool opportunity gaps in the city. The longitudinal evaluation, now in its 10th year, will follow cohorts of children who participated in the DPP through high school and will conduct a cost-benefit analysis of the program.
