DEI Committee Notes

Summary: During social change and political movements, the DEI committee started our February meeting by sharing how these events affect us personally and professionally, as well as what we observe around us. We highlighted the importance of mental health, checking with those around us, and engaging in proactive problem-solving to prepare for future questions and challenges. We discussed possible collaborations with other groups, such as the counseling center, staff advisory council, student success center, and the University Faculty Assembly LGBTQ+ Committee, to promote belonging and community among our diverse faculty, staff, and students. We want to share an LGBTQ+ resources page for Auraria students, faculty, staff, and community members. We also emphasized celebrating cultural events and observances, urging everyone to review theSEHD 2025-2026 Cultural, Heritage, and Religious Observances Calendar. Additionally, the DEI committee is working on a banned book library project. We concluded by expressing our gratitude for our dedicated staff representative, Nicole Holland, who volunteers her time to attend our monthly meetings.
