You’re invited!
Please mark your calendars and join us at CU Denver Student Commons 2600 on Friday, March 28th at 6:30 p.m. for a moderated discussion between distinguished scholars of U.S. religion, Dr. Anthea Butler, Geraldine R. Segal Professor in American Social Thought at the University of Pennsylvania and author of White Evangelical Racism: The Politics of Morality in America and Dr. Randall Balmer, the John Phillips Professor in Religion at Dartmouth College and author of Bad Faith: Race and the Rise of the Religious Right.
Open to the public and organized to take place during the Rocky Mountain/Great Plains American Academy of Religion (AAR) and Society for Biblical Literature (SBL) Regional Conference (hosted this year at University of Denver on March 28-29th), this moderated discussion will not only be a chance to hear from two of the most respected scholars of U.S. religion on the role of white Christian nationalism in the current political moment, but it will also be a chance to deepen existing, and build new, scholarly community across the Front Range as well as the broader region.
Organized by Dr. Steven Vose (History and Religious Studies) and Dr. K. Mohrman (Ethnic Studies, Women and Gender Studies, and Religious Studies), the event has been generously co-sponsored by The Center for the Study of Evangelicalism at UCCS, an Inclusive Excellence Grant through CU Denver’s Office for Access and Campus Engagement, CU Denver’s office of Graduate Education, CU Denver’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office for Strategic Initiatives and Community Relationships, and CU Denver’s departments of Communication, Ethnic Studies, Interdisciplinary Studies, Integrated Studies, History, Political Science, and Sociology, as well as support from CU Denver’s School of Public Affairs.
