– Presented by Dr. Robin Brandehoff candidate for Assistant Professor, Tenure Track for Educational Foundations (EDFN)
Description: This research talk will discuss my early journey and scholarship through Grow Your Own Teacher programming and mentorship, primarily in Latine communities in Colorado and California. This work then progressed as I found my scholar voice through critical mentorship in my teaching and service, but primarily in my research through exploring the experiences of doctoral students of color and my current work in Wai’anae, Hawai’i, working with Kanaka ‘Ōiwi and Asian American educators, administrators, and community members in a homegrown teacher preparation program called Ka Lama. Through this research, I have developed Hānai Pedagogy (Brandehoff, 2023), a pedagogical framework built from a foundation of Kanaka ‘Ōiwi methodologies, critical mentoring, and the fundamental value of sharing aloha in education and throughout one’s community as an act of social justice and liberation.
