A Message from the Associate Dean for Equity Diversity and Inclusion

Happy Wednesday evening, SEHD.

I’ve created a video to share a bit about how I have begun to occupy my role as Associate Dean for Equity Diversity and Inclusion in SEHD (don’t worry; we’ll eventually address the order of D&I, DEI, EDI as an SEHD community). It’s about 11 minutes long. This seemed like a good idea when I started to work on the video, especially compared with a lengthy email. Nonetheless, I’ve organized the video around 4 areas: a) Greetings, b) Gratitude, c) General work, d) Goals

Those goals include:

  • Advancing SEHD EDI Infrastructure
  • Cultivating an Inclusive SEHD Community
  • Realizing the SEHD EDI Commitment through campus and community partnerships
  • Developing an EDI Practice and Scholarship agenda in SEHD

I hope that these are all goals that represent our collective interest in becoming an Equity Serving School within an Equity Serving Institution. I also hope that these build upon the D&I strategic initiatives that SEHD developed in 2017 under Aswad Allen’s leadership as Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion. My other hope is that these resonate with you, and that you hear in them an invitation for us to go about this work together.
