We are excited to welcome Dr. Valerie Sherman to the School of Education & Human Development!
Valerie will be the new Director of T-PREP Pathways, providing leadership for all of our rural undergraduate teacher education programs that we have developed over the past few years with rural community colleges, local districts, and early childhood organizations. These pathways have continued to flourish and with support of a new ECE grant obtained by Kristie Kauerz, Diana Schaack, and Rebecca Kantor, T-PREP will be expanding to Northeastern Junior College.
Valerie joins us from the University of Northern Colorado where she has served as the Coordinator for the Colorado Center for Rural Education for the past 3 years. She received her doctorate in Special Education from UNC, where she had diverse opportunities to engage in research and teach undergraduate teacher preparation courses. Valerie started her career as an elementary teacher in Greeley Public Schools and also went on to serve as an intervention specialist and a literacy coach. Her roots in teacher education began at CU Denver where she received her preparation through our MAT program, serving as a teacher candidate at Semper Elementary in Jeffco (back when the program had different initials—IPTE!)
Valerie will begin April 1. She’ll be joining many of our teacher education “spaces” like TELT, Collaborative Council, and our Teacher Ed Faculty Meetings, so we hope many of you will have a chance to meet her soon. In the meantime, feel free to drop her an email to welcome her to the SEHD! valerie.sherman@ucdenver.edu
