Ellen Hall of Boulder Journey School Passes Away

We are sad to share with you that Ellen Hall, Executive Director of Boulder Journey School (a SEHD partner school), passed away last week. Ellen was very close friends with Dean Kantor and Lori Ryan and Dr. Bill Goodwin served as her mentor for many years. Below is the announcement from Boulder Journey School. Her family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Families, Friends, and Colleagues,
It is with great sadness that we inform you that our Executive Director, Ellen Hall, passed away earlier today. Ellen founded Boulder Journey School, formerly known as Make A Mess and Make Believe, in 1984 and remained a constant presence at the school throughout her life. Ellen will be remembered for her passion, determination, and love for children and families, including her own. Her spirit lives on through our beautiful school that she first envisioned many years ago.

We are planning to celebrate Ellen’s extraordinary life in a public forum and will send details soon. In the meantime, please email memories and condolences to office@boulderjourneyschool.com.

In Ellen’s own words, taken from the July/August 2009 issue of Exchange Magazine, “The joy and excitement of learning together is woven into the culture of Boulder Journey School and shared by all. The sounds of children experiencing, investigating, and communicating their learning with other children and adults are audible in the classrooms, hallways, theater, studio, reflection room, and outdoor spaces. Also audible are the sounds of adults thinking and learning — about children and about their own relationships with the world.”

We will honor her memory by committing ourselves to continuing this work that brought her so much joy.

Sincerely,
Alison Maher and Christi Ogrodnick, on behalf of the entire Boulder Journey School community
