Meredith Lopez served as the keynote speaker at CU Denver’s inaugural campus-wide Academic Advisor Retreat on February 12th. When campus leaders reached out to Dr. Jennifer L. Bloom (co-founder of the Appreciative Advising and Education movements) for thoughts on a local keynote speaker, Meredith was the first person she mentioned. The theme of Meredith’s address was how to be be a sane and effective advisor. She shared stories from her 20 years of experience in higher education and inspired participants to see the long-lasting impact advisors can have on students’ lives. She closed with a challenge, “never stop learning or giving – become that agent of change, that mentor. Lead from where you are….” The retreat was funded by the Office of Undergraduate Experiences.
