NACADA Region 10 Excellence in Advising Certificate of Merit Award granted to Meredith Lopez

Meredith Lopez, SEHD advisor and teacher education coordinator, has been nominated and won the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) Region 10 Excellence in Advising – Advising Administrator Award. This award recognizes individuals who may provide direct academic advising services to students but whose primary responsibility is as an administrator or director of an academic advising program. Excellence in Advising Awards are selected within each region of NACADA. These awards recognize individuals who demonstrate qualities and practices that make significant contributions to the improvement of academic advising.

She was nominated by her colleagues within the School of Education and Human Development by faculty member Dr. Margarita Bianco and staff member Marlinda Hines in the Admissions and Outreach Office.
The National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) is an association of professional advisors, counselors, faculty, administrators, and students working to enhance the educational development of students. NACADA promotes and supports quality academic advising in institutions of higher education to enhance the educational development of students. NACADA provides a forum for discussion, debate, and the exchange of ideas pertaining to academic advising through numerous activities and publications. NACADA also serves as an advocate for effective academic advising by providing a Consulting and Speaker Service, an Awards Program, and funding for Research related to academic advising.

She will be honored at the Region 10 NACADA Conference in Santa Fe, New Mexico on May 23-25, 2016. Region 10 includes the states of Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Arizona and New Mexico.
NACADA evolved from the first National Conference on Academic Advising in 1977 and has over 11,000 members representing all 50 United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, and several other international countries. Members represent higher education institutions across the spectrum of Carnegie classifications and include professional advisors/counselors, faculty, administrators and students whose responsibilities include academic advising.
