13th Annual Future Teacher Expo (FTE)

The Future Teacher Expo (FTE) planning committee is excited to announce the upcoming 13th Annual Future Teacher Expo! This is an exciting opportunity for Colorado high school and community college students to explore teacher education programs across the state while participating in professional development activities that will inspire Colorado’s future teachers.

This annual event is geared towards promoting the state’s undergraduate teacher education programs to high school and community college students across the state. According to the Department of Higher Education, fewer students are enrolling in undergraduate teacher preparation in Colorado. This highly collaborative initiative aims to inspire local youth already interested in becoming a teacher and support their pathway toward applying and being successful in college. In collaboration with the Colorado Teacher Cadet Program and several postsecondary institutions, FTE will include an inspirational speaker, sample college-level classes, Colorado teacher education program fair (featuring early childhood, elementary, secondary and special education license programs), and opportunities for attendees to engage with teacher candidates and practicing teachers. This unique opportunity provides students to:

        – Network with current college students, professors and admission’s staff
        – Participate in a teacher licensure class at the college level
        – Learn about Colorado teacher licensure programs at the college fair
        – Explore the latest trends and professional development opportunities

This year’s keynote speakers are Kyle Schwartz and Ryan Moore. Schwartz drew national attention when she shared the eye-opening responses to her “I wish my teacher knew __” activity. Moore is the recipient of the 2015 Colorado Teacher of the Year award.

New this year! Future Colorado Teachers have the opportunity to attend the expo either at University of Colorado Denver on October 9 or Colorado State University Pueblo on October 20.

The committee is made up of SEHD staff Jason Clark, Marlinda Hines, Meredith Lopez, Scarlett Ponton, Chris Ricciardi, Vanessa Navarro-Gomez, and Joseph Madera along with other staff from Arapahoe Community College, Metro Teacher Cadet Programs, and CSU Pueblo.
