Colorado PWR Definition Survey Invitation

Dear Colorado Education Stakeholder,

The Departments of Education (CDE) and Higher Education (CDHE) need your input regarding updates to the description of postsecondary and workforce readiness (PWR) adopted in 2009 by the State Board of Education and Colorado Commission on Higher Education. C.R.S. 22-7-1008 (3) (a) dictates that this description be revisited every six years. To collect input, CDE and CDHE are working with WestEd — a nonpartisan, nonprofit research, development, and service agency — to conduct stakeholder surveys. Additionally, two stakeholder sessions were held in June and August 2015.

The following PWR definitions resulted from the August session:

Definition A: In partnership with families, communities, schools, and businesses, Colorado high school graduates demonstrate, through a rich body of evidence, the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in postsecondary settings and the workforce.

Definition B: Colorado high school graduates demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to enter and advance in economically viable career pathways as lifelong learners and contributing citizens.

Definition C: Postsecondary and workforce readiness describes citizens who demonstrate, through a body of evidence, the knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary to compete in the global economy and succeed in life.

Definition D: High school graduates demonstrate the employability skills necessary for success in the global economy.

We invite you to select the definition that best describes what postsecondary and workforce readiness means to you. We also seek input on the preferred components of a revised definition. Results will be used to inform the revision and adoption process. Individual responses will be kept confidential.

This survey is being sent to parents, educators, business and industry leaders, community-based and non-profit organizations, and policymakers. This brief, five-question survey, should take 5-10 minutes to complete. Only one completed survey per individual is desired. Respondents are encouraged to forward the survey to their networks.
