Position: Associate Dean, Research and Academic Programs – Tenured, Rank as Associate/Full Professor.

The Associate Dean (AD) of Research and Academic Programs in College of Education (COE) at Seattle University will join and collaborate with a core leadership team, faculty, and staff committed to preparing ethical and reflective leaders for social justice. We seek a leader who can enhance and advance the strategic vision, thinking, and actions of the college, through innovative and entrepreneurial initiatives that foster inclusive academic excellence and research/scholarship. The AD will provide leadership for faculty to engage in ways that positively and responsively impact our local, regional and national communities and that nurtures equity, diversity, inclusion, and social justice. The successful candidate will hold the rank of Associate or Full Professor, depending on qualifications.

Major Responsibilities
The Associate Dean for Research and Academic Programs, provides leadership for the following major areas: 1) faculty RTP processes, mentoring, research/scholarship, and sponsored programs; 2) strategic, innovative, and multi-disciplinary academic programming and continuing education initiatives; 3) faculty governance, professional development, and recognition; and, 4) college, university, external local and national relationships and initiatives. The AD is responsible for coordination with university digital learning and innovation initiatives and technology applications. The AD provides leadership for the advancement of continuing education and entrepreneurial programs, with an emphasis on expanding and deepening partnerships and agreements with external constituents. The Associate Dean is expected to continue a commensurate research and scholarly agenda.
The ideal candidate must demonstrate an understanding of, commitment to, and leadership for Seattle University’s Jesuit mission. Demonstrated interest support the college and university interdisciplinary research in areas such as the Seattle Youth Initiative, community engagement, and globalization is valued.
Minimum Requirements: A doctoral degree in an academic discipline with an academic record that meets the requirements for tenure and the rank of full professor or associate professor at SU. Leadership experience in a university. Understanding of the context and operations of higher education from both an intellectual and leadership perspective. Superior communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and administrative skills. Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to the College’s mission. Ability to develop and sustain effective relationships with department chairs, faculty, and program staff throughout the college. Adherence to professional confidentiality. Ability to demonstrate initiative, applicable risk-taking, providing and responding to constructive feedback, and follow-through. Ability to collect, analyze, report, and use data and information in decision-making. Demonstrated success with curriculum oversight, development, evaluation and use of data to think strategically about organizational programing and operations. Exhibits an entrepreneurial, collaborative, and participatory leadership style that fosters respect and collegiality. Evidence of an active research agenda and success with external funding.

Preferred Requirements: Demonstrated knowledge of current literature and trends in P-20+ education. Academic preparation or recent scholarship in adult or higher education practices.
Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time, 12-month appointment across academic year position including summer responsibilities. The salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
