Yesterday, we learned of the horrific attack on hundreds of innocent people enjoying a Saturday night in a dance club in Orlando, Florida— terrorized, and many killed and critically injured, because they identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer. We cannot start this new week without acknowledging the incredible pain we all feel and especially, our compassion for the loved ones of the victims and the millions of members of the anguished LGBTQ community. The world is in mourning, reaching out with condolences, trying to absorb the shock and the weight of this hateful event.
But we also have many LGBTQ faculty, staff and students right here in our SEHD and campus community whom I am especially thinking about this morning, and hope will receive many expressions of support today. To my colleagues and friends, my heart go out to you, and I stand with you in complete solidarity.
With prayers for an end to hate,
Rebecca
