We are reaching out again to let you know that there is still time for you, your colleagues, students, prospective and current educators, and others in your network to have your voices heard on the critical issue of school funding in Colorado! AIR and CDE are offering two additional dates for virtual Town Halls where interested Coloradans can discuss school funding in their local public schools and across the state. The forums will be open to all citizens of Colorado regardless of your geographic region.

Also, to provide additional opportunities for people to express their views, we plan to keep the Public Education and School Funding survey open until after the last town hall – at the end of the month.

We hope you can continue to support our efforts have stakeholders in Colorado inform the study of school funding in Colorado.

Please help us spread the word! You can do this by directing those in your network to the Colorado Financial Adequacy Study website, where they can register for a virtual town hall and take the survey. (The content below the signature describes the ways you can ensure that members of your district and school communities are heard.)

The American Institutes for Research (AIR) has been commissioned by the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) to conduct a study of the state’s public K-12 school funding system. In collaboration with CDE, AIR is reaching out to stakeholders in Colorado to discuss critical issues related to the state’s K-12 school funding. We invite you to voice your views on critical issues in school funding through two opportunities occurring from late August through late September: (1) a public online survey and (2) one of eight virtual town hall meetings, organized by CDE region or one of two virtual town hall meetings open to all Coloradans.

What can you do to help?

Point colleagues, those you serve, and others in your network to the Colorado Financial Adequacy Study website!

For more information about the study, opportunities to express your views, and links to final study reports once completed, please visit the Colorado Financial Adequacy Study website. The website also includes examples of previous school funding projects completed by AIR and out contact information.

Publicize the survey to colleagues, those you serve, and others in your network!

The AIR study team developed a survey to gather views on a variety of issues related to public K-12 school funding. These issues include the current adequacy of school funding, essential skills for students, and key programmatic elements for supporting students with particular needs (e.g., students from low-income families, students with a disability, English language learners). The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete, and will be open until September 30th.

A link to the survey is provided on the project website. We encourage anyone who is interested in public K-12 school funding in Colorado to complete the survey.

Publicize virtual town halls to colleagues, those you serve, and others in your network!

To have more in depth discussions about public K-12 school funding, we are planning a series of virtual town halls in different regions of the state as well as two virtual town halls open to all. At these town halls, we will share information about the study and solicit feedback on Colorado’s school funding system. Participants will have the opportunity to have their voices heard on a variety of topics, including the adequacy of the current school funding formula, important student competencies and goals, the performance of your local public schools, and more. These meetings will allow participants to have a rich discussion about school funding with other interested members of the public and inform future policies regarding school funding in Colorado.

Links to register for the virtual town halls are provided on the project website.
