LITERACY TEACHING SCHOLARSHIP ($1000)

The Literacy Teaching Scholarship is available to newly-admitted students in the Literacy Education MA.

HOW TO APPLY? Prepare a Cover Page: Your name, address, phone, email; current MA program (e.g. Reading/Endorsement, grades K-12; or English Education).

Submit a Letter to the RLE Faculty. In a one to two-page letter and elaborate on the following:

  • what you have done in literacy teaching, what you hope to do in the future related to curriculum and/or assessment work so far;         literacy;
  • who are the students you support in the area of why you want the scholarship; and, literacy; • how the scholarship will help you.

BRIDGE SCHOLARSHIP ($1000)

The Bridge Scholarship is available to students who completed one of the Literacy Education Certificates.

Programs and are newly-admitted students in the Literacy Education MA. Currently, Literacy Education Certificate Programs include the following:

  • Early Literacy Certificate
  • Developing Literacy & Language for Diverse Learners Certificate
  • Applied Literacy for Family & Community Helping Professionals Certificate (LE & HDFR)

HOW TO APPLY?  Prepare a Cover Page:  Your name, address, phone, email; LE certificate program completed (and delivery location or format); current MA program (e.g. Reading/Endorsement, grades K-12; or English Education).

Submit a Letter to the Literacy Education Faculty. In a one to two-page letter and elaborate on the following:

  • what you have done in literacy teaching, what you hope to do in the future related to curriculum and/or assessment work so far
  • who are the students you support in the area of why you want the scholarship
  • how the scholarship will help you.

SCHOLARSHIPS

GRADUATE CERTIFICATE SCHOLARSHIPS ($800)

Certificate scholarships are for individuals who are registered with the Office of Continuing & Professional Education for one of these two fully online Literacy Education graduate certificate programs:

  • Developing Literacy & Language for Diverse Learners Certificate
  • Early Literacy Certificate

The Developing Literacy & Language for Diverse Learners Certificate is a four-course certificate which includes these 3-credit courses:

  • LCRT 5810: Oral & Written Language & Literacy (Spring)
  • LCRT 5150: Culturally Relevant & Responsive Pedagogies (Summer)
  • LCRT 5055: Literacy Assessment & Informed Instruction (Fall)
  • LCRT 5770: Effective Literacy Instruction for Diverse Learners (Fall)

The Early Literacy Certificate offers primary grade teachers, preschool teachers and paraeducators a greater background in the development, assessment and instruction of literacy for young children, native speakers of English and English language learners. It includes the following three courses (each is 3-credits):

  • LCRT 5210 — Literacy Development, Pre K–3rd Grade
  • LCRT 5220 — Literacy Routines & Assessment, Pre K–3rd Grade
  • LCRT 5230 — Early Literacy Instruction

HOW TO APPLY?

Develop a one to two-page letter address to the Literacy Education Faculty and elaborate on the following:

  • what you have done in literacy teaching, what you hope to do in the future related to curriculum and/or assessment work so far;        literacy;
  • who are the students you support in the area of why you want the scholarship; and, literacy;
  • how the scholarship will help you.

Funds will be awarded the semester after notification of scholarship award.

Submit all scholarship application documents to:

Dr. Sherry Taylor. Applications will be reviewed by the entire RLE faculty. Decisions are generally made within 30 days and students are contacted shortly thereafter. Funds will be awarded the semester after notification of scholarship award.
