With the support of the Office of the Provost, we have funds to cover the cost to faculty of hiring undergraduates with work-study awards for Summer 2018 and Fall 2018 EURēCA! Work-Study positions.
Currently, over 2500 CU Denver students qualify for work-study, a form of need-based financial aid that allows undergraduates to earn up to $3000 each semester. We often picture work-study jobs as mundane – manning a desk at the gym, for example. Great for paying the bills, but in many cases not contributing significantly to professional development. However, work-study student assistants can get paid to perform any of variety of career-relevant tasks in most disciplines, while also contributing to your scholarship! Mentors from both CU Denver and CU Anschutz Medical Campus are invited to participate.
As such, we are writing to invite you to participate in the EURēCA! Work-Study Program, where faculty create content-rich work-study jobs for undergraduates in any discipline. Your positions will be promoted to undergraduates who will be provided a brief orientation and professional development opportunities (e.g., resume writing, professionalism, safety). One more great thing — if you hire a work-study student assistant, you only pay 25 cents on the dollar, with the federal government covering the rest. The best part? We have funds to cover that 25 percent for ~50 faculty interested in participating during the Summer 2018 and/or Fall 2018 Semesters.

We are seeking mentors from both campuses in all disciplines, and are particularly receptive to positions that are suitable to undergraduates in their first year or two at the University of Colorado Denver. If you have an idea for a position – make it work-study! If you need extra hands in the lab, studio, or library – make it work-study! A small sample of possible duties follow:
- georeference museum collections;
- conduct a preliminary literature search;
- download, clean, and align DNA sequence data;
- conduct outreach for K-12 students at on-campus events;
- enter data and manipulate large databases;
- design/execute PCR assays;
- digitize old media collections.
