The 23rd annual Future Teacher Expo was a resounding success! On Friday, October 3, SEHD welcomed nearly 200 high school students from across Colorado for a day of inspiration, learning, and connection.
The students took part in interactive breakout sessions, heard from community leaders, and learned about how CU Denver’s teacher education program can help them thrive in their future classrooms.

None of this year’s event would have been possible without the incredible efforts of our staff and faculty. The Office of Recruitment & Outreach would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the following individuals who went above and beyond to make the day memorable:
- Christopher Carson, Senior Instructor – Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education.
Chris stepped up in a moment of need, adjusting his schedule the day before the Expo to lead two breakout sessions. His responsiveness and enthusiasm made a significant impact during a critical time.
- Dr. Geneva Sarcedo, Program Director – Call Me MISTER.
Geneva volunteered as a breakout session leader for Teacher Education in the absence of enough faculty volunteers. Her sessions referenced Duncan-Andrade’s concept of Gangstas, Wankstas, and Ridas, sparking meaningful reflection and discussion.
- Batol Swade, Academic Advisor.
Batol facilitated three breakout sessions focused on student success, drawing from her experience co-teaching a UNIV class this semester. Her sessions provided valuable insights into thriving in college.
We also extend our deepest appreciation to the 20+ SEHD volunteers and facilitators who supported the event in various roles. Your time, energy, and passion for education made a lasting impression on our future teachers.
