  1. GENERAL BUSINESS & REVIEW/DISCUSSIONS:

Curriculum Committee Orientation with deans Lynn, de Jong, and jefferson:

Is there SEHD AI syllabi language.

  • Ester suggested CC take lead on the AI syllabus language. DTL committee was consulted about this last year, but it didn’t move anywhere due to campus still didn’t have any language.
  • Dean Lynn sees it as a DTL committee role to provide language. If DTL is not prepared to engage in the conversations, then the CC will provide some recommendations.

Question- is the process by which syllabi and course, program proposal approval working well?

  • Dean Lynn- Curriculum approval process needs some further clarification. The Bylaws committee is trying to address that now. It shouldn’t be SEM or program leaders that approve a course. Program leaders raise questions and CC approves. Should this start with CC and be approved or not, then move to program committee.
  • Ester- Involvement of Program Leaders was to check for redundancy. There needs to be a process for staff to know all the logistics needed
  • Anything Curriculum design and content is responsibility of CC.
  • Align to regent law- CC approve or not approve–> program leaders make any suggestions–> then SEM makes suggestions on the catalog info. (Ultimately, role of CC is to approve curriculum).
  • Dean Lynn- Committee composition needs to have conversation about how we all work together in alignment with Regent Law and Policy. Maybe Antwan would assist.

CC Discussions:

REM created an AI statement because it’s not in the honor code and publications are tackling it. There is a gap in the student honor code that does not seem to cover AI.

The approval process starting with Program Leaders seems to make the most sense before coming to CC, due to all the due diligence that needs to be done to check for redundancy and strategic design.

How do we shift the focus from reviewing syllabi to a full curriculum review:

Are we asking the right questions, ask more targeted questions.

  • Why are you making these changes?
  • What is the gap it is filling?
  • What is the audience of this course?
  • The Market and Enrollment Viability?
  • Have you spoken to other SEHD programs, CU Denver schools and colleges? What has the conversation been?
