The National P-3 Center (NP-3C) hosted a Colorado Transitions to Kindergarten Summit on October 17 and 18 in Denver as part of the center’s work with the Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC), funded by the Preschool Development Grant Birth through Five Initiative (PDG B-5), from the Office of Child Care, Administration of Children and Families, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Over 100 participants representing 17 community teams from all over the state came together to talk about the importance of both the ’sending side’ (early care and education) and the ‘receiving side’ (kindergarten) in the transition to kindergarten. Dr. Lisa Roy, Executive Director of CDEC, and Susana Córdova, Commissioner of Colorado Department of Education, addressed the teams, signaling the importance of interagency coordination and collaboration in this important work. Kristie Kauerz, Executive Director of NP-3C and Associate Clinical Professor, provided a keynote. Stephanie Olmore and Amy Brenton, NP-3C staff, organized and facilitated the high-energy event.
