1.GENERAL BUSINESS & REVIEW/DISCUSSIONS:
Items for Oct 2, 2023
- Brainstorm ideas to discuss with the deans
- Deans will meet with the committee for orientation from 10:25 – 10:45
- Antwan would like to attend a committee meeting to discuss ways the O-EDI’s work may interact with the CC (Tentative Nov 6). Topics in mind:
- Inclusive Excellence Principles as a lever for instructional accountability
- Development of Inclusive Pedagogy Learning Community in SEHD
- Summer 2023 doctoral student inquiry
- Religious Observances guidance (and additional needs, such as Proactive Supports for Students with Disabilities)
Questions about course numbers for MA, and doctoral 5000, 6000, and 7000-level courses, is there differentiation in required content? Who decides/approves course numbers?
The use of AI, ChatGPT for assignments
A SEHD working group of “experts” to come up with a proposed AI policy
Add AI piece to 5-year syllabus review
2. COURSE PROPOSAL/REVISION REQUESTS:

Approved School Psychology New Courses Rachel Stein
- SPSY 2210: Infant, Toddler, and Preschool Mental Health in Schools and Communities
- Current courses on mental health focus on school-aged populations. This course will fill the gap to strengthen mental health in early childhood education.
- Will submit to the CCOC as a behavioral sciences core.
SPSY was recently re-accredited by APA for 10 years. The following new courses and revisions are part of the process to rearrange and align content to better meet program objectives.
- SPSY 6510 – New Course
- Title: Psychopathology Over the Lifespan
- The course will replace SPSY 6500 Affective Bases of Behavioral and Psychopathology.
- SPSY 6600 – New Course
- Title: Social Psychology for School Psychologists
- Focus of the course is on social psychology within the context of educational and mental health.
Approved SPSY Revisions/New Course Franci Crepeau-Hobson
Comments from the committee: make DEI more visible in courses, update learning outcomes to make them more objective and align with the course level and standardize the grading scale so it’s the same through all SPSY courses.
- SPSY 5010 – Revision
- Updated Title: Historical and Theoretical Foundations of Psychology
- Updates to the title and course description are required based on feedback from accreditation review.
- SPSY 6000 New Course
- Title: Cognition, Learning, and Affective Aspects of Behavior in Psychology and Education
- Developed course based on feedback from APA accreditation review.
- Will replace LDFS 6320 Mind, Brain, and Education.
- SPSY 6450 – Revision
- Updated Title: Consultation and Data-based Decision-Making
- Combining the content from SPSY 6450 and SPSY 5600 Behavior Analysis and Intervention.
- SPSY 6550 – Revision
- Updated Title: Academic & Behavioral Interventions in School Psychology
- Updates to title and course description are required based on feedback from APA review.
