Job Opportunity for ED of Local Nonprofit that supports Youth

Executive Director – Empowerment Center of East County

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director of the Empowerment Center of East County, located in Lafayette, CO, is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic goals of the organization, helping youth create positive social change through arts, community-based learning, and leadership opportunities.  These efforts include fundraising, marketing, and community outreach.

 Leadership & Management:

  • Actively engage and energize (EC)^2 volunteers, event committees, alumni, partnering organizations, and funders.
  • Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors; serve as ex-officio of board committees; seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for local operations.
  • Ensure effective systems to track progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents.

Administrative:

  • Recruit, hire, supervise (EC)^2 program staff and independent contractors.
  • Provide and/or coordinate professional development opportunities.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for key partners/funders.
  • Implement a system of on-going monitoring of (EC)^2 programs on a monthly and annual basis:
    • Monthly reconcile operational and program budgets.
    • Monthly report on program progress and outcomes.
    • Annually coordinate agency self-assessment
    • Annually review and execute agreements with partner schools and organizations.

Fiscal Oversight

  • Responsible for fiscal oversight and integrity of the organization including:
  • Maintain knowledge of all grants, contract requirements
  • Maintain knowledge of rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Co-develop and implement with the Board systems to track, manage and report on grant funds and contributions.
  • Complete Annual Reports as needed

Fundraising & Outreach:

  • Work with Board to develop, plan and implement fundraising activities.
  • Track and report on progress of gifts and funding throughout the year
  • Manage effective systems for tracking and cultivating donors and prospects
  • Meet with potential partners, identify common vision and opportunities for collaboration.
  • Maintain (EC)^2 website and social media.

Program Support:

  • Market, recruit and enroll students for Empowerment Center classes, including communications with parents and partner schools.
  • Train and support program facilitators for classes such as Art for Social Change, What’s Cooking? Mindfulness for Teens and other classes offered.
  • Define potential programs for future classes that meet the needs of the community
  • Serve as substitute facilitator for classes.

Qualifications

The ED will be thoroughly committed to the Empowerment Center of East County’s mission. The successful candidates will have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience.

Specific requirements include:

  • Advanced degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit management, education, or a related field, with at least 3 years of management experience; track record of effectively leading an outcomes-based organization; ability to provide examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, positive child and adolescent development, community-based learning, prevention education, cultural competency, community organizing/coalition-building, and related evidence-based strategies and programs, and commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation.
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget.
  • Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning.
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
  • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to personal vehicle.
  • Knowledge of the Lafayette community – recommended
  • Bilingual (Spanish written and verbal communication) – recommended

Compensation: $36,000 per year, 25-30 hour average work week.
