Important Information Clarifying Steps for the EdD Doctoral Research Project

We’re getting some questions from students and faculty about the DRP process, timelines, permissions, etc. While the info is “out there” in handbooks, workshop materials from fall semester, and update memos I’ve sent out as we’ve gotten more info from districts, etc., I thought it would be helpful to develop a current “FAQ Sheet” to put everything that may be unclear into one document. The FAQ Sheet includes details on permissions needed, timelines (there are NO formally set timelines… but there are clear recommendations based on when you need permissions), and a NEW REQUIREMENT for students to track their work if it is connected to any school, district, or state agency (including charter schools… this is to help us meet the new state data privacy law requirements).

We have posted this FAQ Sheet with other DRP materials, in the Google Drive that faculty and students received at the fall DRP workshops—here is the link again: http://bit.ly/DRP_Design_Supports
Students—it has come to our attention that many are still not clear on the appropriate processes for the THREE levels of approval which must happen—in the correct order—to permit you to start to collect data for your DRP. Failing to get these approvals may result in your DRP not being acceptable to the graduate school, meaning you’ll need a new DRP. To my knowledge, NO ONE in the cohort 7 group (currently designing their DRP studies) has been approved to start their DRP work… if you hear otherwise, have those individuals contact me immediately, please.

FACULTY, PLEASE ALSO READ THIS CAREFULLY so that you know how to coach the students you are working with.

In addition, once students have solidified their intended DRP design with their DRP adviser (enough to know where they want to do the project, what data they’ll need, and who will participate), I’m available for short consultations about permissions that will be needed once the DRP is defended with the committee. Students can sign up for a 30-minute consultation ONE WEEK IN ADVANCE of the available requested date, at this Google sheet: http://bit.ly/Spring_2018_IRB_Consultations
