College Summit APP-A-THON

College Summit APP-A-THON

2nd Floor Corridor

WHAT IS AN APP-A-THON?
College Summit unleashes the power of low-income high school students to be change-makers for themselves, their schools and communities. Creating one of the largest student-led trainings of educators in America, College Summit App-a-thons provide a platform for these high schoolers to introduce educators and counselors to the next generation of college access and success tools.

Pioneered with College Summit students and the Los Angeles Unified School District, the App-a-thon format places local educators shoulder-to-shoulder with students who train them how to use newly launched mobile and web apps. These apps make the college-going process more transparent, collaborative and easy to navigate for low-income and first generation students and their families.

What will the day look like?
Similar to a trade show, students will represent one of 10 apps from 12:30pm – 2:30pm. Walk around the room and learn about setting goals via WOOP or how a first generation student can go to college via imfirst.org. You can even learn about the basics of college-going in a game of “Zombie College.”
