I have been singing with Harmony: a Colorado LGBTS Chorale since Fall 2002. Over those years, we have performed all kinds of different music, speaking the language of inclusion and love for all. Our upcoming concerts on May 5th & 6th are particularly personal to me.
Tyler Clementi was coming out as a young gay man, beginning his freshman year at Rutgers University. He was a victim of cyber-bullying by his roommate, and died by suicide, after just a few weeks at Rutgers. His story puts a human face on the consequences of cruelty, which has been faced by millions of others suffering in silence in their schools, colleges, teams, workplaces, or faith communities. In their grief, his parents established the Tyler Clementi Foundation to help end online and offline bullying, and several years ago the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus commissioned Tyler’s Suite, to serve as a source of healing, hope, and a call to action to end bullying.
Harmony will be performing with Sine Nomine, along with several guest soloists, the Rocky Mountain region premiere of “Tyler’s Suite”. We are thrilled to have Tim Seelig, San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus direct the production.
Thanks,
Suzanne Arnold
