Chopra and Westland Present at Council for Exceptional Children Annual Conference

Ritu Chopra and Caron Westland were selected to present a pre-conference workshop at the annual convention of the Council for Exceptional Children which is the largest international organization in the field of Special Education. The full-day workshop, Effective Supervision of Paraeducators: Why, What, and How, was presented on April 8th at the Hilton Bayfront in San Diego. The workshop focused on the issues and challenges resulting from lack of effective supervision and appropriate utilization of paraeducators in schools. Westland and Chopra shared research-based supervisory functions, interactive tools and methods for delivering paraeducator supervision content to special teachers and administrators. Participants representing 13 states attended the workshop.

Sarah Patterson, a special education supervisor from Fairfield County Educational Service Center in Lancaster, Ohio loved the workshop. “It provided fantastic resources and guidelines to help me set clear expectations and provide appropriate supports to my teacher/paraprofessional teams,” she said. “I am excited and prepared to guide my teams to create more effective classrooms.”
