The NGP FOLC is part of a National Science Foundation project, “A model of educational transformation: Developing a community of faculty implementing Next Generation Physical Science and Everyday Thinking”. This project has the ambitious goal of engaging a community of faculty in course transformation and continued professional development. An important common element for the faculty in this community is teaching courses for pre-service elementary teachers and general education students. Participating faculty are committed to using the Next Generation Physical Science and Everyday Thinking (Next Gen PET) curriculum. Next Gen PET is a research-based, NGSS-aligned, physical science curriculum designed specifically for pre-service elementary teachers. It is also suitable for general education students. Preliminary data suggest that Next Gen PET students experience significant growth in conceptual understanding
