Primary internship sites are sites that have been approved at all levels (have met all requirements for an internship placement with the UCDenver Counseling program.

Secondary sites are sites that are either identified as Private Practices (all PP’s are secondary sites) or are sites that do not meet all of our internship site requirements.

Some things to remember:

  • Students can have up to 2 internship placements during the course of their internship
  • Students wanting to do part of their internship at a Private Practice are required to request to the faculty (in writing, sent to their faculty mentor at least 10 days prior to the next scheduled faculty meeting) their desire to do part of their internship at a private practice. These decisions are made by on a case by case basis per the entire faculty.
  • Students approved to have a private practice as a secondary site are also required to secure another site (non-private practice), as a primary site.

Typically, students have a better chance to get a private practice site approved as one of their sites if:

  • the site is already approved
  • student’s have a primary site in place/planned at the time of request
