Graduate intern position description
The graduate intern position at MSU Denver’s Classroom to Career Hub offers a range of counseling and program-implementation opportunities.
Requirements
We accept graduate interns from CACREP accredited counseling master’s degree programs. Students must be in good academic standing, and submit the internship requirements from their own educational institutions. Myers-Briggs Type Indicator certification and Strong Interest Inventory training is preferred but not required. We cannot guarantee a certain number of client contact hours each semester, but fall and spring terms are busy enough to easily fulfill contact hour requirements. All students interning in the summer have gotten more than enough hours to meet graduation requirements for accredited programs.
Internship candidates should be highly motivated, able to work in a less structured environment, comfortable with very diverse populations, computer literate, resourceful and highly skilled at written and oral communication. An interest in career counseling and development is required.
Responsibilities
- Graduate interns perform individual counseling, walk-ins, workshop facilitation, job search assistance, and classroom presentations for MSU Denver’s highly diverse student and alumni population.
- Confidential electronic record-keeping is required.
- Interns also have the opportunity to create, implement, and run counseling or job search groups for students, alumni, staff, faculty, and community members, as appropriate, on the approval of the Classroom to Career Hub Assistant Director.
- Qualified interns will additionally have Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Strong Interest Inventory and CliftonStrengths assessment appointments and workshops.
- Interns will familiarize themselves with career and life planning resources to assist clients with research and job searches.
- Weekly supervision meetings are required.
- We reserve the right to intervene in individual or group sessions as needed.
