Internship Description for END Violence Project
The END Violence Project, developed and delivered through the University of Colorado’s Center on Domestic Violence works with Metro Denver K-12 schools to address domestic and dating violence, sexual assault and stalking through education, services, and connections to community resources. We are looking for interns to start January 2019. A second semester will be available based on student and program needs.
Desired Skills and Experience
• Knowledge about domestic and dating violence and sexual assault
• Some experience providing services or advocacy to victims of domestic or dating violence or sexual assault
• Experience working in a school environment or committed interest in pursuing school-based work.
• Ability to take initiative and work well on a small team
• Bilingual (Spanish)
Intern Training
• Interns will receive training in the areas of domestic and dating violence, sexual assault and stalking
• Interns will be trained to co-facilitate intervention/support groups for children and youth who have experienced interpersonal violence (as witnesses or victims).
• Interns will be trained to deliver psycho-educational curriculums to small groups of youth identified as ‘high-risk’ for victimization.
• Interns will acquire skills to deliver advocacy and counseling services to children and youth in the school setting.
• Interns will receive weekly supervision by the END Violence Project Manager (Licensed Social Worker).
Intern Work Experience
• Interns will commit either 16 or 20 hours a week to the END Violence Project depending upon their program expectations.
• Interns will co-facilitate psycho-education and intervention groups with the END Violence Specialists.
• Interns will consult and collaborate with the Mental Health Team at their assigned schools
• Interns will provide individual counseling and advocacy to students
• Interns will learn about and connect students and/or family members to community resources including, but not limited to: housing, legal advocacy, victim compensation supports, therapy, group supports
• Interns will develop resource materials relevant to children and youth
