The Fostering Healthy Futures Program at Aurora Mental Health Center is hiring one to two Skills Group Assistants for its therapeutic social skills groups for the 2015-2016 academic year. Groups meet Mondays and Tuesdays (4-7 p.m.) starting September 28, 2015. Skills groups serve preadolescent youth who recently resided in foster care. This is a stipend–paid position, equating to roughly $11 per hour. Groups will meet in either Aurora or Denver.
Basic Responsibilities:
* Be at the location from 4 to 7 p.m. on group evenings
* Set up group room, including video camera
* Sit outside group room and facilitate youth time-outs and bathroom breaks
* Implement behavior management skills
* Pick up dinner on the way to group or receive dinner when delivered each night
* Clean up the room post-group
* Occasionally drive one or two children to and from group
* Occasionally provide behavior ratings of children in group
Benefits:
* Provides experience with at-risk youth ages 9-11
* Possibility that many nights there will be time for studying, etc. for nearly 45 minutes of the group
* Free dinner on group nights
* No groups on the weeks of Thanksgiving, Winter Break (3 weeks) and Spring Break (we use a modified DU quarter-based academic calendar)
Qualifications:
* Enrolled in a collegiate academic program
* Experience with and passion for helping youth
* Experience with behavior management
* A reliable vehicle and current auto insurance
* Be able to pass a background check
* Reliable, responsible and prompt
This is a great job for a student with interest in pursuing graduate studies in psychology, social work or special education.
