The selection for these two winners could not have been accomplished without the thoughtful reviews by the review committee. The selection for these two winners was a very competitive process. This year a total of nine dissertations were submitted for consideration. These underwent two phases of blind review by nine distinguished scholars in the field of bilingual education. Careful attention was taken to ensure there was no conflict of interest for the review. Each submission was reviewed at least three times, and finalists underwent another set of three blind reviews, and two dissertations rose in tandem as top selections for first place. Interestingly, this is the first time that two selections from the same doctoral-granting institution have come out as winners. At that time Dr. Luis Poza and Dr. Ilana Umansky will be officially recognized in front of the AERA Bilingual Education Research SIG constituency and presented with their awards. The winners will also present a brief overview of their research during the business meeting.<\/span><\/div>\n
The recognition is a testimony of their promising future as scholars who can make a difference for the education of children in our multilingual world, and is also a testimony to the great work being done at Stanford University.    <\/span><\/div>\n
