Members reflected on the importance of having a dedicated space for faculty and staff to share perspectives, discuss concerns openly, and recognize issues even when conversations do not immediately lead to action. Discussion also centered on strengthening community development, professionalism norms, a sense of belonging, and appreciation for staff work. The group also discussed how the committee might support faculty and graduate students navigating states and political climates that are misaligned with DEI values, acknowledged broader threats facing some academic programs and careers stemming from recent U.S. civil rights decisions, and discussed the role of university messaging in the current cultural and political climate.
