While I\u00a0believe every month is Black History Month, February has its iconic place in reminding us that as educators, it is our duty to continually educate ourselves and others on the importance of the brutal histories, overwhelming creativity, and unbounded joy that\u00a0is Black culture. Black culture is American culture and resonates profoundly throughout the Americas, lest the current erasure efforts create a generation that forgets history at our own peril. \u00a0As James Baldwin succinctly said, \u201cIt is certain, in any case, that ignorance, allied with power, is the most ferocious enemy justice can have.\u201d Please take advantage of the efforts of our students to honor Black History Month that are listed below.<\/p>\n

Event Reminder<\/b><\/p>\n

The\u00a0ACE<\/b>\u00a0Community & Connection event is on Wednesday, February 11\u00a0<\/b>from 8:30am \u2013 10am in the Lawrence Street Center (LSC) Terrace Room. We are honored to have Professor Michele D. Simpson, JD, from CU Boulder Renee Crown Wellness Institute will lead a session about compassion and dignity – practices that will buoy us in rough waters. \u00a0Our time together will include mindful movement, stillness, compassion, self-compassion, somatic practices, and loving-kindness practices. There will be opportunities for small group discussion, along with time for sharing in an intentional community space. \u00a0You are invited to attend the session however you\u2019d like, bringing questions, curiosities, and your\u00a0whole\u00a0<\/i>selves. Over 120 have registered and I look forward to seeing you there!<\/p>\n

Modeled after the hugely popular television game show, this team-based competition features questions and \u201csurvey says\u201d answers entirely centered on Black excellence, civil rights history, and cultural contributions. This enjoyable competition showcases the richness of the Black experience across the diaspora<\/i><\/p>\n

This dual-purpose exhibit celebrates both past and present. One section features a\u00a0Poster Display\u00a0highlighting key inventions by Black people, while the second section offers a dedicated space for\u00a0CU Denver students\u00a0to display their own original artwork. This event connects historical achievements with the voices of the\u00a0Lynx community today<\/i><\/p>\n
