{"id":20142,"date":"2025-07-23T12:56:44","date_gmt":"2025-07-23T18:56:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sehd.ucdenver.edu\/impact\/?p=20142"},"modified":"2025-07-23T12:56:44","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T18:56:44","slug":"nih-policy-update-ai-use-and-application-limits-for-research-proposals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sehd.ucdenver.edu\/impact\/2025\/07\/23\/nih-policy-update-ai-use-and-application-limits-for-research-proposals\/","title":{"rendered":"NIH Policy Update: AI Use and Application Limits for Research Proposals"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/research.ucdenver.edu\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Office of Research Services<\/a>\u00a0(ORS) would like to bring to your attention a new NIH policy announcement:\u00a0<b><a href=\"https:\/\/grants.nih.gov\/grants\/guide\/notice-files\/NOT-OD-25-132.html\" rel=\"noopener\">NOT-OD-25-132<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 \u201cSupporting Fairness and Originality in NIH Research Applications.\u201d<\/b>\u00a0This policy is in response to the NIH receiving large number of applications from individual investigators in a single application submission round and will apply to all applications submitted on or after the\u00a0<b>September 25, 2025<\/b>\u00a0receipt date.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Key points for faculty researchers:<\/div>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><b>AI Use in Applications<\/b>: NIH will\u00a0<i>not<\/i>\u00a0consider applications that are substantially developed by AI\u2014or contain sections substantially developed by AI\u2014as original ideas of the applicant.<\/li>\n<li><b>Application Limits<\/b>: NIH is also implementing a cap of\u00a0<b>six applications per calendar year<\/b> per individual PI. This applies to new, renewal, resubmission, or revision applications.\u00a0 The cap does not apply to T activity codes and R13 Conference Grants<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>You can view the full policy text\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/grants.nih.gov\/grants\/guide\/notice-files\/NOT-OD-25-132.html\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.
