Student Committee Meeting – 10\/2\/23<\/b><\/div>\n

Attending: Caron Westland, Elena Sandoval-Lucero, Sofia Chapparo, Joshua Martin, Jennier Camacho Taylor, Jim Christensen, Ron Tzur<\/i><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

Guests: Dean Marvin Lynn and Associate Dorothy Garrison<\/b><\/div>\n
    \n
  • The Dean\u2019s goal this year is to get to know students better.<\/li>\n
  • Would like to form a student leadership or governance body to get input in initiatives like the strategic plan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

     <\/p>\n

    University Academic Integrity Committee<\/b><\/div>\n
      \n
    • Caron and Sofia serve on the committee now. Elena is willing to join that committee. Caron is willing to stay on or be an alternate.<\/li>\n
    • Once an appeal has gone through the SEHD committee it goes up to the university committee.<\/li>\n
    • The positives – Cases are fairly clear. \u00a0With the front-end work completed everything is decided within the appeal meeting.<\/li>\n
    • The challenge \u2013 There can be quite a few towards the end of the semester.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
        \n
      • There has not been training for new members yet. Sofia will reach out to see when she and Elena can attend a training.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Goals for the year<\/b><\/div>\n

        Student Feedback (new initiative)<\/p>\n

          \n
        • Promoting the importance and timeliness of feedback for student work<\/li>\n
        • Action points:\n
            \n
          • Collection of data to assess feedback concerns in order to address the issues.<\/li>\n
          • Small dialogue groups\/sharing general guidelines on feedback.<\/li>\n
          • Ask for time on the next faculty retreat agenda to have the conversation.<\/li>\n
          • Follow-up with lunch & learn discussions and\/o, accountability partners.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

             <\/p>\n

            Student celebrations (continuing initiative)<\/p>\n

              \n
            • With the changes in the department, we need to clarify how to get information to Julia to be used for promotion and marketing. Caron will invite Julia to next meeting)<\/li>\n
            • For strategic plan alignment \u2013 social media networks, highlighting amazing student work to help with both student recognition and enrollment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

               <\/p>\n

              Outstanding Graduate Process (continuing initiative)<\/p>\n

                \n
              • We no longer have staff support to gather and manage data.<\/li>\n
              • Students find it meaningful to be nominated.<\/li>\n
              • The process has been cumbersome and time consuming for faculty.<\/li>\n
              • We would like to create a system (formstack) for rolling nominations:\n
                  \n
                • To make the process easier for programs<\/li>\n
                • Allow students to self-nominate.<\/li>\n
                • Connect to outstanding graduates but have ongoing recognition such as student of the month (SEHD Impact) and highlight more of our outstanding student work.<\/li>\n
                • Nominees and nominators could be entered into a regular drawing for Starbucks cards or other rewards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
